Project Information
ECS 100 is the first-level university class in the Faculty of Education at the University of Regina. This class introduces pre-service teachers to the numerous aspects to the classroom, students, and schools.
One of the topics covered in this class is "Diversity". Diversity is loosely defined as the individualism each person encompasses. These differences include race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical and mental abilities and disabilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, and more.
For this research project, we wished to focus on cultural diversity for a few reasons; Saskatchewan's cultural backgrounds are incredibly diverse and it is increasingly more common for cultural diversity in classrooms. It is important for teachers to understand the student in all ways, including customs and values, beliefs and background. Understanding this will allow teachers to better educate the future inventors, scientists, doctors, lawyers, teachers, and astronauts of the next generation.
